Color 1.2
Issues
A new shape and form came about with the second release: a square format that will continue to reign for our duration. This issue’s cover explored spot-varnish techniques and a barn-door-gate-fold that revealed a skate-cover image. Nominated for Best Art Direction at the Western Canadian Magazine Awards, this issue still stands for many of us as our favourite. In order to achieve something extraordinary, one cannot subscribe to the ordinary. The lifestyles portrayed within the pages of Color are anything but. This constant exploration and risk taking, combined with creativity and sheer talent, make this issue what it is.
Like the first issue, the second issue of Color wasn’t available to newsstands, but distributed directly through the brands that support us. At 9×9” Color found it’s format in an accent of the square logo.
The Russ Milligan interview received an honorable mention at the 2004 WMA’s for Best Art Direction in an Article and has gone on to be proclaimed as the groundbreaking cover design for Color.
