RICK HOWARD

Life

Vancouver-born Rick Howard unknowingly blazed a trail for generations of skate-boarders, by being one of the first Canadians to acquire California sponsors and make the move down south. He was first picked up by Blockhead in the late 80s, then he made a well-known switch to a new company which meant that travel for demos, contests and filming trips made the road his home more than anywhere else. From Splendid Eye Torture in ’89 through to now, Rick’s parts have been nothing short of inspirational. Always pushing the boundaries of skating with a smooth and unique style his collective video parts exemplify a natural progression that is unforced and instinctive. He holds it down though for his homeland, as Canadian footage consistently appears in his parts (Fully Flared being the only exception).

Jody Rogac

Life

As her website will tell you, Jody is a native of England, immigrant to Canada, and now a resident of Brooklyn, New York. Despite being mostly studio-based, Jody’s photographs convey a strong sense of nature and portrayal of subject with an approachable, soft mannerism, and are almost as recognizable as her round-rimmed red glasses and dip-dyed hair braid. A phenomenal photographer with an ever-growing talent and integrity, Jody sees what others don’t and never fails to miss a moment. Her talents seem completely effortless and well beyond her years.

Life

A truly travelled and international gentleman, Danny Fuenzalida has had the strongest experience of diaspora I’ve yet to stumble across. Originally from the prison colony of Australia, Danny spent his youth crisscrossing the globe with his family. His father worked in the mining industry, and Danny found himself in places as different and far-flung as Chile and Port Hardy. Already an expatriate of a fistful of countries, it’s no wonder he’s grown so attuned to travelling, life on the road, and enjoying and relishing in the oddities of odd places.
