There are two things you need to know about Daniel Dumile a.k.a MF Doom.

1). Back in 89’ when he and his brother Subroc formed the rap group KMD, he was known as Zev Love X. KMD was ill, they combined funky jazz joints with audio clips from old films and cartoons. KMD landed a big record deal with Elektra, then got dropped just as they were about to release their second album “Black Bastards.” Elektra allegedly took issue with the album’s cover art, a drawing Doom had done of a hung tar baby. Doom will tell you that Elektra just couldn’t deal with the “truth” KMD was coming with on the racial and societal tip. The same year that KMD got dropped, Subroc died in a car accident. That was in ‘93, and the rap scene didn’t hear anything new from Daniel Dumile for 4 years.

2). In 1999 Dumile emerged from the lab wearing a metal mask and calling himself MF Doom. His first solo L.P “Operation Doomsday” (Subverse), blew the minds of all those who were lucky enough to hear it. The Metal Face Doom alias is based on the Marvel comic villain Dr.Doom. Indeed, Doom would dub himself the Super Villain, and go on to create another rogue alias by the name of King Geedorah. Geedorah is based on the three headed, winged monster from the classic Godzilla films.
