OKANAGAN TOUR

words and photosby gordon nicholas

We were 25 deep at the height of our group. With four cars and 10 days, I don’t think anyone really knew what we were doing or where we were going. Everything just sort of fell into place on the road. It all started in Kamloops. Getting into town about 10 p.m., we quickly supplied ourselves with enough beer and burgers to make it through the evening. We decided on Goose Lake (an old high school bush party spot) for the safest location to get wild. At this point half of us were fairly ill-prepared for a night outdoors, and come morning there were several bodies piled into cars to keep warm. After a good eight-hour warm up at the skatepark the next day, along with several dips in the river, we were ready to set up camp yet again. But as you’ll soon see, not once did we manage to set up tents under the light of day. After what seemed like several hours of discussion, a couple of local homies finally guided us to the best site of the whole trip. We were no more than 15 feet from an icy creek, and took full advantage of it in the morning to revive ourselves from the continual craziness around the camp

fire.
