New York hosted the annual CMJ Music and Film Marathon in October, a festival spanning 5 days and consisting of over 1200 live performances in 75 venues across Brooklyn and Manhatten. I boarded a midnight bus from Montreal and arrived at Port Authority, in the heart of the Big Apple, by 8 am. From there the fatigue and sleep depravation combined with the culture shock of suddenly finding myself in the middle of 18 million people elevated me to the point where I actually had to make a conscious effort to refrain from looking physically happy. I thought if I didn’t pay attention I might find myself bounding through the streets like I was off to see the wizard or something. I didn’t find myself in need of more than my press credentials, a camera, and a subway pass as the city can accommodate most every whim . It would take a fleet of photographers to capture the festival’s entirety, so instead here’s fraction from one photographer on foot with a bus pass.
