The Telus Conference Centre parkade in Whistler got did yesterday for the first annual Skate And Deploy event. Over 30 of Canada's best skaters jammed it out in true D.I.Y. fashion for good times, cold brews, and a chance at the $2000.00 prize purse. A big congratulations are in order for John Hanlon (2nd place, $500), Bradley Sheppard (3rd place, $300), and most notably to Paul Machnau who definitely put skateboarding on the top of his agenda for the day taking the winning title and $1000.00.
vancouver to whistler pitstop.
nate jones, lee saunders, moser, chad dickson, cyrus, caleb, (coming back now:) tim, joey williams, bryan wherry, aj macalister, frank, caissie, and adam hopkins - aboard the silver bullet train (10am).
Highlights for best trick on the car include Brett Stobbart's ollie up to the roof, to blasting frontside flip over the hood. Chris Connolly's air waaaaaay up and over the length of the car to hood smash was the real show stopper... or was it when the car was thrown over on its side and the whistler locals went ape-shit on it? A lot went down on it though, Bryan Wherry front blunts, Hanlon handled it, Nate Lacoste...
Onward to the PUSH.CA wallride jam - Joe Buffalo showed us what's up with an alley-oop wallride to fakie, Adam Hopkins got in there, surprisingly the wallride gap was done frontside first - Jorden Murray was the first to go backside on it.
The Finals were anything but ordinary. The top 7 skaters advanced from the semis to jam out for 7 minutes together, each with an opportunity of a solid 1 minute destruction session if they choose. There was way too much good stuff happening in those few minutes to list, but it closed with an impromptu hang-time air from the quarter pipe to the pipes above by Chris Connoly. The finals also brought a new approach to skating the car when the box was removed and finalists skated the roof in it's rawest form.
