FROM THEIR PRESS RELEASE:

You can tell at first glance these guys refuse to fall in line, that their roots are planted somewhere under the mainstream. Tough Guys Girls Cry are a unique group of talented musicians who care way more about playing music and getting rowdy with their fans than they do about trying too hard at anything.

The 3 friends started playing last year in the little beach town of Tofino BC, and gained a loyal following almost instantly from it's local surf and skate scene. After only a year as an official band they’ve already played gigs at some of BC's finest venues like Vancouver's Biltmore Caberet, and have opened for bands like Bison and SNFU. With props from Chi Pig himself, and a handful of hard ass groupies under their belts, their live shows and new material have their fans rocking out and wanting more. With the influence of classic 80's punk, a poppy tempo, hard riffs and original dirty vocals they get the girls dancing and give the guys something they can bang their heads to. A combination that's hard to nail, TGGC is seriously unique for a time where every avenue of new music is either remixed or regurgitated. Lacking image all together this band is only trying to have a good time. With songs like “Buffalo” a tale of a Native American seeking revenge on the bison that killed his brother, Shawn explains writing songs from the third person makes it more interesting now that his days of “being in shitty relationship and on drugs are over.”  So when I asked him what the hell they’re singing about he said, “I still don't have a clue what some of the songs are about.” Jesse, who writes most of the lyrics, comes from a hip hop background and Shawn said, “to him it’s more about playing off of words than it is content...sometimes I don’t think he even knows what the songs are about.”  Now that’s original.

With Shawn Lennon on keys, Jesse Deslippe on guitar, Jay Santarossa playing the drums, and Chris Cohoon’s recent addition on bass these friends/bandmates just want to make good music, party hard and get their fans riled up.  So if you are secretly tired of seeing your favourite local bands play the same old shit time and time again, this band will be worth your 6 bucks. So skaters, punkerds, hipsters and all you crazy chicks who just want to get rowdy, this is where you'll find it. This band will remind you of how music used to make you feel, stoked. Like a hole in the wall breakfast joint, Tough Guys Girls Cry are a cheap fix for a life well lived.
