DAY 2

after a messy first nite in Austin, Texas for some (ok.me <http://ok.me> ) we rolled out of bed and back into bars with a noontime BRASSTRONAUT show at Republic - which hosted the Sled Island Festival Showcase. BRASSTRONAUT, as usual, was wonderful with their E.D.I.clarinet-horn-piano-guitar epic pop jams - even when using all borrowed gear such as Travis Barker from Blink 182's drum kit which Travis Barker left there the nite before from his A-TRAK x TRAVIS BARKER drumsNdeejay show which was probably just as horrible as it was when I saw DJ AM x TRAVIS BARKER play at Coachella in 2009.

After BRASSTRONAUT and another Whole Foods lunch session we headed over to the Levi's Fader Fort to hear NEON INDIAN while we waited in line and after a 30minute ice cream filled line(free SPONGEBOB popsicles!) to get inside. We all got in luckily enough to catch LOCAL NATIVES from Los Angeles. LOCAL NATIVES record just came out this week - and they are one of the most promising nu-sun-pop acts from L.A.. LOCAL NATIVES opened up 2 months ago for Edwards Sharpe and Fool's Gold at their sold out Biltmore Cabaret performance in Vancouver and blew everyone out of the water and after their performance at the Fader Fort they will be moving out of 200 person rooms and will be headlining massive shows in the near future!

Post Fader Fort we found the TYPEWRITER MUSEUM which is typical Strathcona house with a goat tied up out back and an all Japanese band day showcase. In the backyard we caught the last half of Tokyo, Japan's GAGAKIRISE's two piece a la NO AGE / JAPANDROIDS full on "black long hair nice wah pedal metal core duo" sound (thats the band's own description on their flyer) that blew us away. I haven't seen just two people make as much noise as that in a very long time and we quickly scooped up all their tapes - tshirts - cds they had for sale. They were followed by a one man act from Japan that could only be described as GIRL TALK of Metal. Imagine every extreme metal genre stuttered and mixed as massively loud as could be in 30 minutes which started a lil child to come thru the alley and karatemosh all the old people out of the way. More video on the way of these two shows!

After a lil alley walk, where we bumped into some cute boy from Reno who was wearing Vancouver's NU SENSAE t-shirt, we winded up at the big SALEM - GZA - JJ - FIRST AID KIT - HOLY FUCK and THE XX showcase at Mohawk where we hunkered down with Vancouver and Canada friends Patrick North, Grahm Noble, David Look, Annie Forrest, Chris from Analog Bell Service, Edo from Brasstronaut, Jokers of the Scene and Rory them Finest of Toronto to see this schizo line up - which jumped from lil girl college mixtape folk stuff from Sweden's First Aid Kit(barf) to JJ's weirdo times which was again wimpzville to the amazingly cold-gutter-thug-terror-trance set from SALEM, to the indie dance thing that HOLY FUCK does, to the weirdly booked GZA - who played right before THE XX - and confused all the girls there just to cuddle their boyfriends to THE XX. After Salem and GZA we didn't see the point of seeing THE XX emo up our lives so we all scooted to various other shindigs and stumbled back to our hotel to wake up to $100 of room service full of grilled cheese sandwhiches and multiple bowls of ice cream.
Day three of SXSW starts now.
