MOMENTUM WHEELS

Print / Life / Skate

It can get mighty dreary between these concrete walls - especially since the building manager put a stop to our office sessions. Today I surprised Craig with a special request to test out the wheels Momentum sent us... and let me tell ya' these soft 54's make a helluva filming board.

my filmer setup: Bug Juice Series

These cruisers are made with a 25% organic compound made from bug shit! Combine that with a 100% recycled urethane core, and you have one eco-smooth ride. Artwork by Andrew Pommier. 82a.

Craig's setup - from one set of Momentums to an other: Jose Rojo, Mutant Barnyard Series

Artwork by Andrew Pommier. 99a.

Our streets become somewhat famous over the years with lines filmed of Cory Wilson (0:32), Spencer Hamilton, and many more. Hell, one day I looked out to see Scott Decenzo frontside wallriding halfway to my office window!..  Check out Craig's review here and see what he thought of the new Momentum wheels.

JOPSEPH HART, OUT OF MOMENTS

Art

4.2 cover artist Joseph Hart has a new show opening in Paris at Galerie-Vidal Saint Phalle. The show, titled OUT OF MOMENTS, May 6th and will be up through June 30th, 2010.

Four Ideas & The Opposite of Four Ideas (diptych), 2010

Collaged paper, ink, acrylic, colored pencil and graphite on paper

40 x 30 in / 102 x 76 cm, individually

I was surprised he would use the word 'illustration' in his web address, but then if you think about it, rhyming 'art' with his name just sounds silly and something like "Joseph Hart Creations" could mean he bedazzles.

ONLY IN WHISTLER

Life

(VANS) Steve Van Doren, Cab, Michelle

Last week while closing the show in Whistler we had some art at, I had the pleasure of running into the fine folks from Vans and Volcom. After some delicious sushi with the gracious Steve Caballero and the Vans crew, I got to barge in on what appeared to be a mall-punk convention that I later found out was actually the best and baddest sales people from West 49 stores across the country. Wow - what a night it was...

FIRST WEEKEND CLUB

Film

Recently I discovered the First Weekend Club, a non-profit supporting Canadian films. After last night's screening of Passenger Side, a film written and directed by Matt Bissonnette starring Adam Scott from Party Down, I don't know what I did before joining.

If you're a fan of good cinema or interested in being the one in your group that can always recommend a good flick then this is definitely for you. As well as getting to see really great films before the hit theaters, the evening always starts with some alcoholic beverages and a little something special. Last night was a live performance by The Rekkerz with guest guitarist Ben King of the Yardbirds (yes, the 60s UK band has reformed).

Oh, and big comfy leather seats—Who wouldn't want to do this every month?

Passenger Side opens this friday at Tinseltown Cinema in Vancouver. Go see it this weekend before you're so far behind you're still talking about primeval movies like Avatar.

SUBMIT NOW - One Way Or Another

Art
Artists, pay attention:
About

Open Call end this Thursday, April 22nd for the "made-for-you fundraiser in support for Contributor", One Way Or Another in which I've been asked to help curate. We will be hosting a month long open call for artist/studio entries for “One Way Or Another” on Society6’ s Collaborations channel. From all the entries, there will be 25 artists / studios selected to participate in the project.

To be considered a participant in the open call, candidates must sign up to Society6 (if not a previous member) and create a small profile showcasing 1 to 10 pieces of their original art work (this should be pre-existing, and not created specifically for the contributor show). Artists must then link their profile to our “Contributor call for entries” by simply clicking “apply” on our studio (once they are logged in). That’s all that is required. After the 1 month open call, the curation board will have 2 weeks to choose the 25 artists and notify them by a congratulatory e-mail.
