New Moon Duo Due Soon
Music
San Francisco's Wooden Shjips are a beast of a cruising, chugging, space-rock band, and their offspring/side-project Moon Duo (composed of Sanae Yamada and Erik Johnson of the Shjips) might be even more beastly. Their Killing Time EP on Sacred Bones got some heads yakking last year, but they're about to blow the doors wide open with a proper LP, Escape, on Woodsist. Four songs, two sides of wax, and nothing but face-melting, acid-damaged organ/guitar burners. It's trashy, blown-out rock in the tradition of Royal Trux, but switched into the glazed, endless-highway glide mode of classic krautrock, for continuous, slow-motion explosion that'll carry you clear out of whatever zone you're in and onto whatever plane you're aiming at. Deep riffs.
