COOL NEW BAND: REAL ESTATE

If you like psychedelic music and reading blogs, you may have already come across Matt Mondanile, who records blissed-out tropical drone music with his guitar and sampler under the name Ducktails. Matt's in a "real band" too, though, and they're called Real Estate. Their myspace url is "letsrockthebeach", so that gives you a bit of an idea what they sound like: the songs, written by Matt's buddy Martin Courtenay, are super breezy and laid-back, lightweight and cool like a fine t-shirt worn on a not-too-humid summer evening. Their first release, a 7-inch on Underwater Peoples, is called "Suburban Beverage" and it's out now. Oh yeah, they're from New Jersey, but I think they all moved to Brooklyn.
