CHAD VANGAALEN

Music

We have a lot of love for Chad Vangaalen around here. His new album, Soft Airplane, is awesome and as usual, he animated a video for the first single all by himself. The dude also skates, builds instruments, and recently produced an album by Women, another Calgary band, that is really good. He's on tour right now, too, so check out the dates and catch Calgary's most fertile imagination in the flesh. Dates and video after the jump.

CHILDREN

Music

Dylan's STREETS post reminded me about Children and I got to thinking, "When are these guys finally going to put out an album"? One myspace click later, I get an answer: HALLOWEEN! RAD!

Never put up any music or videos or “photos” of any Blank Dogs material without permission. Especially if you sell adspace on your site. Anyone who wants to hear the music can do so for free at: http://blankdogs.blogspot.com

Ballsy, but only likely to actually attract more blog attention. Like right now. All I can say is, “You got it, dudes”. Blank Dogs rule. Go to their website and download their albums for free, because they have put them up there for you.

Pink Reason

Music

Here's a rad band that isn't playing Goner Fest: Pink Reason. Their so-called "robitussin blues" is some ultra-raw, soul-scraping darkness hauled out of the black abyss of guitar musics past. Harsh acid-damaged strumming with quasi-goth (post-goth?) vocals that might put you in mind of Joy Division and Bauhaus or Xiu Xiu and Wooden Wand, depending on what you're into.

GONER FEST!

Music

Goner records is staging their fifth annual festival featuring a shitload of bands (mostly lo-fi/no-fi scuzzy-fuzzy garage-punk) that we've given love to in the past and plan on giving love to in the future: Oh Sees, Vivian Girls, Sic Alps, The Intelligence, Eat Skull, Psychedelic Horseshit, and Jay Reatard, just to name a few. For maybe the first time ever, I wish I lived in Tennessee.

No band links, but you can (and should) google some of those bands' names and hook yourselves up with (at the least) some myspace goodness.

THE BUG FEAT. WARRIOR QUEEN

Music

Should be epic. If you can't go, watch this kinda 90's-style video for their awesome tune "Poison Dart".
