Vancouver Urban Timberworks
I wanna talk about wood. Lets think about our skate decks, our books, the shitty desks some of us have the pleasure of hunching over all day. Over half of BCs gross domestic product comes from timber, but it also makes up for more than half of the so called “green waste” (whatever that means, waste is waste). Which begs the question.. what on earth is wrong with our resource management system? Over 3 million cubic hectares of great, usable wood is being shipped out to waste management facilities annually, picture 1 590 000 football fields of our forests being clear cut and thrown away every year. Not good.

So what do we do about it?.. uhh.. maybe we should leave saving the world to someone who knows how. BLVD rider Danny Hagge and his buddy Eric Savics are on it. Talk about two regular guys with the million dollar idea. These boys came to the realization that they can tap into that endless supply of wicked timber and make something of it. Upon having this realization a few years back they quit their day jobs and went full force into Vancouver Urban Timberworks.

Every time a new condo gets built, trees are getting cut down, the boys from Urban Timber works are now there to pick it up.. free of cost. People all over the province live on properties that are full wood that the have no use for and dont want, Hagge and Savics want to save them the cost of an arborist which in turn saves all that lumber from being hacked into a million pieces of firewood. After milling and transporting the wood to their North Van shop (and no doubt stopping for a much needed skate break on the way) they manufacture it into the sickest pieces of furniture I (and probably anyone) has ever seen, as well as custom timber pieces. They are proud that every piece is 100% recycled. Find them at one of the north shores many parks or right here.
