Ledge 'N Dairy Contest comes to Chuck Bailey

Skate

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 @CHUCK BAILEY YOUTH PARK

Just one of the many amazing Olio Festival skate events, on Saturday, Sept. 22,  Color, Coastal Riders and CONS are hopping on the train down to the Chuck Bailey Youth Park to host a contest where consistency = cash.

In this new take on an old skateboard match tradition, skaters must figure out a way to milk their bag of tricks for all it's worth! No more of that "huck and hope" style of trickery here... you're gonna need to land your tricks in order to win some of that cash and product ($1000 value). So stick with what you know and you might get paid!

The Format:

  • 3 Best Tricks on 3 obstacles (a little something for the tranny lovers)
  • The Ledge Contest: open skate + "Make A Train"
  • BEST OVERALL

BEST OVERALL

(Most consistent / Most tricks landed all day)

Strategy is the key! Judges will be watching all day and counting every trick you land, awarding points for consistency and difficulty. Variety is not necessarily the spice of life and bailing on a trick you have no business trying will cost you. Also, sliding or grinding the whole ledge might just bump you ahead of that dude who only hit the last half! Stick with what you know—judges will be counting the number tricks landed against your failed attempts.

"MAKE A TRAIN" Contest

(1st, 2nd, 3rd place awarded)

For 15 mins straight, all participants will attack the ledge, one after another. You fall, you’re out! The last 3 standing will be judged on the consistency and difficulty of the tricks they put down in this time. Unlike a Best Trick contest however, judges will count all landed tricks equally (based on difficulty of course), so your strategy is important!

Sure, you can do 20 straight 50-50s if you want, and make the Top 3, but that’s not gonna guarantee you First Place. If some dude comes correct with 5 perfect nollie nosegrinds, he might just take you out! Figure out your one, solid trick you can do every time, and milk it! Take a risk though and you might just be rewarded!

Register to skate with a $5 cash donation or canned-good equivalent to the City of Surrey Food Bank then enjoy the music, the BBQ and FREE ice cream and water provided by Happy Water.

RSVP on Facebook here.

12HR FILM COMP TURNS UP THE HEAT THIS SEPTEMBER 15TH

Print / Film / Skate

Vancouver’s skateboard Plaza is always going off with the energy and excitement reminiscent of classic spots like Philly’s Love Park or MACBA in Barcelona, but for one day this September, Vancouver’s Plaza will be buzzing like never before as teams of filmmakers and skaters compete for cash, fame and enough product to last until next summer! The 12-Hour Film Festival pits established and emerging skateboard filmmakers and their hand-selected teams of amateur and pro skateboarders against each other to create the best video part possible in, well, 12 hours.

Vancouver Skate Plaza - Saturday, September 15, 2012

Starting at 12pm on September 15, registered teams will have exactly 12 hours to film (up to 6 min. in length) at The Plaza. After midnight, teams will then have until 5pm, September 20 to log, edit and submit their video to Menu Skateshop (114 Water St, Vancouver) for judging. All videos will be hosted on Skatematic.com for public voting, but winners ultimately decided by the judges. All entries will be eligible to win over $5000 value in prizes including: A Lifetime Supply of Independent Trucks and First Place—a commission to produce an original video for ColorMagazine.ca

Videos will be judged on production value, creativity and quality of content. Teams are permitted to document their journeys to and from the plaza, so long as the footage remains inside the 12-hour span. Any incidental footage outside the plaza is not required and will not be judged, but will be taken into consideration when looking at the overall product and how well it accents the plaza content.

Teams are open to an unlimited number of skaters, but must be entered into registration before September 15. NO POACHING! — A skater must be registered on your team to be included, and no skater may appear in more than one team/submission. Teams may consist of a maximum of 2 credited filmers. Registration is $35 per team and must be done before Sept. 15 at Menu Skateshop or online at OLIOFESTIVAL.com. To keep you fueled, all registered wristband-holding teams will enjoy complimentary food and beverages provided by Chronic Tacos Cantina and Happy Water. Individuals wishing to participate, but don’t have a team, can show up on the day of the event and for $10, we’ll try to put you on a team!

Even if you just come down to watch, energy levels are going to be spiking as friends and foes push each other to new heights. With so much product and cash to give away, not to mention bragging rights, this is one contest you don’t wanna miss!

The Quiet Life, Fall pt. 1

Fashion

The first part Quiet Life's Fall '12 collection is up and has quite a few splendid items, like the above 'Trotter' jacket.

There is always a photography element to the Quiet Life, from the Camera Club to shirts like this.

Long supporters of the pocket tee, TQL has a variety of them like this bathing beauty.

New to the line up is this great camera bag, big enough for a Pentax K1000 (or DSLR) and a wallet/cell phone/point and shoot.

LiL B makes people go crazy

Music

So, if ya'll didn't heard, we done up a #BASED interview with Lil B in our new issue Color 10.3. Our boy Cam was lucky enough to catch the man backstage after his Vancouver show where they got to real talkin' about what the hell this fool is really about.

Just in case you haven't been following, in a nut shell, hip-hop phenom Lil B has been slowly taking over the entire internet with viral videos, outrageous lyrics, and more hashtags dedicated to him than Michael Jackson. For some reason, every man in America wants Lil B to fuck their girlfriend and many of these same male fans are openly willing to fuck Lil B himself. It's down right weird and fucking crazy.

In order to fully understand the entire phenomenon, you have to read Cam's interview "BASED on a true story" in the new issue (on stands this month at 7-11). In the meantime, watch this video evidence of just how out of hand the Lil B epidemic is getting...
