New Heroin Radness from Fos

The patched skate pilgrim of England, Mark 'Fos' Foster sent over a preview of a new series from Heroin. Glow in the dark graphics for those times at night when you want to cuddle up with your board and dream of the next day's session. Fully creepy and all Fos. Nice one.

SPOT WATCH

Skate

In February we launched 8.1 with an article by Rhianon Bader that highlighted the benefits of living and skating in an Olympic City. From Munich ('72), Montreal ('76), Calgary ('86), Barcelona (92), and Vancouver 2010 -- It's certain the Games really do provide new and interesting spots to skate.

Dan Barker of Whistler, BC sent the above photo (by Stephan Losinsky) this week of an ollie over the lounge chair sculptures in the Olympic Village in Vancouver. If you got a new spot, or interesting photo to submit, send it in to submissions@colormagazine.ca

Dennis Hopper, Fresh Jive

IN MEMORY OF DENNIS HOPPER: 1936-2010

Dennis Hopper passed away recently at the age of 74. Originally making a mark in the 50s alongside James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause and Giant, he will always be remembered to me from the various colorful and unforgettable roles he played throughout his life: The photojournalist in Apocalypse Now, Frank Booth in Blue Velvet, the father in Rumble Fish, Clifford Worley in True Romance,  Howard Payne in Speed, and countless others. He also directed the critically acclaimed Colors, and most notably, Easy Rider in 1969 which became the cinematic symbol of the 1960s, and which a film critic once noted that, “No other persona better signifies the lost idealism of the 1960s than that of Dennis Hopper.” Besides acting, Dennis was a prolific photographer, painter, and sculptor, while once known to be one of Hollywood’s most notorious drug addicts for 20 years.

Out now is a portrait tee of Dennis by renowned photographer Guy Webster.

One Way or Another - Austin

Life / Art / Skate

Got into Austin and met Sieben at the local swimming hole.

Phil and Greg 'PNut' Galinsky taking a rest from skating the ditch.

They say the last leg is the hardest. In our case I'd say it was the funnest. After dropping off the boxes of art at the No Comply shop, swimming and skating a fun ditch we got to our camp site just in time. The park ranger was closing the gate as I pulled up.
