LIGHTNING BOLT ALBUM REVIEW

LIGHTNING BOLT
Earthly Delights
(Load)
Rejoice, mortals, Lightning Bolt has returned! Things were getting just a little too tame in their absence, and there's nothing we needed more than a refreshing blast of skull-crushing, bowel-wrenching, fist-pumping splatter-rock from Rhode Island's all-powerful, mask-wearing, comics-drawing caveman joker gods. From the opening salvo of “Sound Guardians”, the two Brians remind us that they, and only they, hold the keys of chaos. Is there any other band that reaches such heights of glorious, cathartic heaviosity? There might be noise rock bands that are harder, darker, or more abrasive, or metal bands more technical and more grandiose, but you know what those guys' problem is? They take themselves too seriously! Neither Pissed Jeans nor Merzbow nor Sunn0))) nor Mastodon have the sheer idiot glee of Lightning Bolt. Lightning Bolt are unhinged. They are wild and free. This noise is catchy. As you probably already gathered, this album is no letdown. It's no great leap forward, but it's every bit as boredom-annihilating as their best work, and you need it. http://www.myspace.com/lightningboltbrians
