Zak and Tony.

Our "creative relief" and friend Matt French came up to join in all the glory that Danny Way and Waiting for Lightning brought here in Vancouver April 14th, bringing his camera and a stack of fabulously expired Polaroid film with him thanks to the good people at the Impossible Project. See below photos of Matt Miller, Sascha Daley, Sluggo, as well as our special guest DJ Josh Kalis and much more from the Glory Days after party up on our Flickr page.

Globe Record Leaks- Thomas Haney to Old Langley

How sick is it that Thomas Haney Secondary School has its own plaza skatepark? The first of its kind in Canada to be exact and according to New Line (the fine folks who built it), it is an attempt to "incorporate progressive public space for youth in non-traditional settings." Sounds like the makings of a new young adult tv show—Transition High—or something like that. Anyways, it's a sick plaza and we stayed an extra long time here for a handrail session with Haslam and DeCenzo, a filmer/photgrapher session with plenty of sweepers and even a tee-shirt signing with a local shop owner who followed us on Twitter and met us here.

Then, another (ahem) gem of a park in Walnut Grove. 'A' for effort?? The guys got a few tricks here, but the photographers were to busy checking each other out to notice. Infinite loop.

Ahhhh...Ol' Langley. Even just saying it harkens back to feelings of sympathy and fondness. Like patting your little brother on the top of the head for trying. Or kind of like, 'the one that got away.' Of course everybody was all: "this was where Colin McKay did that nollie 180 heel on that fucked up wall thing?" Yes, and if the people of instagram are to be held to their word, there's also been a nose blunt from Alex Chalmers and a f/s flip from McCranker among other bangers. Truly ridiculous considering, well... just look at this thing. At least one of our crew bombed it.

When most people "dork around" it's usually at the curb or low quater pipe level. With Daewon, it's video part worthy tricks at the DVS park.

Globe Record Leaks—Railside to Pitt Meadows

This leg of the journey was like a shit sandwich: great park, shitty park, great park. At RailSide, the sun was shining and the chill factor was at an all time high. We busted out the cooler of cold ones and sandwiches, while Haslam and Appleyard busted out tricks up the Euro gap. (Side note/opinion: every park should have a Euro gap) When the cops sauntered up to see what was going down, we closed the cooler and took it as our sign to mozie on.

Settlers Park turned out to be a bump on the ground. Seriously, that's what it was. Most of us opted to stay in the van, but Haslam took on the task and popped a few big ollies. Wait a minute, where's Ryan and Mark?...

Pitt Meadows is ruling. Another heavy session here where everyone skated and all three of the pros got tricks. Stefan Shipmaker was drunk by now and offered up $20 to whoever pole jammed the Salmon rail. Rob Rickaby gladly accepted and did it first try. Unfortunately, no photographers were around to capture the disappointment and remorse on Stefan's face.

Discovering Randy Pandora

[ o ] Sandie Carrico from Public Enemy no4)

When writer Senka Kovacevic approached us and told us she knew this amazing man, this animated character living in Vancouver’s DTES, known as Randy Pandora, we checked out a few videos of this alleged punk icon and had to know more. Here was this poetically articulate man; confident and fragile simultaneously. A self-confessed “freegan” who’s views and opinions on the world seem incredibly accurate to today’s street standards and yet strikingly in-tune with 70s punk politics of which he was a leader, playing in bands Exxotone and The Generators. That is, until he was assaulted and suffered severe head injuries that forced him to leave music. Today, Randy makes art from material he finds in dumpsters around Vancouver.

Pick up a copy of our new issue (10.2) to read Senka's full story of Randy Pandora with a haunting, original portrait by Gordon Nicholas.

Port Moody and Coquitlam Town Center were two great stops. Appleyard was in the zone, getting in on some of the high-flying shenanigans and boosting huge ollies alongside DeCenzo. Haslam was getting techy and everyone seemed to be getting sequences. Rob Rickaby meanwhile continued to impress with his locals-only knowledge of these parks' lines. We lost a bit of time here on our precious iternary, but it was well worth it to see the guys having so much fun.
