MATIX ANNOUNCES

Matix Clothing has just announced a major contest event for 2008 titled, "Lord of the Lines", which will be hosted by Supra Distribution in 14 cities across Canada.

The event in each city will consist of sets of four riders completing lines of tricks on three obstacles in time allotments of 15 minutes. Three is the magic number? Or is it four, or 15? Maybe they all are this time. Regardless, the best line wins, with standard obstacles of an up-ledge, manual pad, and a flat bar playing host to various trick wizardry.

Winners of each event from each city will eventually wake up one day in Vancouver for a grand finale (hangover-free I hope!), where their line skills will be put to the ultimate test. Check www.supradistribution.com for details and one heck of a nice flier.

I LOVE ME A BBQ.

Recently it was sunny in vancouver. weird, i know. So my girlfriend Juli and I decided to pack up the Webber and get crackin'. Our friend Tim Sedo came along and introduced to us the best pre-packaged flavoured popcorn i've ever had.
What can I say, I like barbecues.

GET TRICKS 2008

Skate

written by Jarvis The UW Summer Series contest "Get Tricks" event could of been called "Get Wet", because when we arrived to the Railside skatepark, the park was soaked from the morning showers. We weren't too sure if the park would dry up in time to start the contest, but we continued the preparation. One of the city parks guy had brought a propane torch and begun drying up various spots, which helped boast our spirits. Slowly as the morning turned into the afternoon, the skatepark was dry enough to skate. We got some AZ tracks pumped into our ears, some Monster energy drinks down our throats and our boards under our feet. The "Get Tricks 2008" contest was officially on. This year we had 36 skaters registered to skate in the jam format contest. There were some heavy hitters in each heat, which made it so much fun to watch. Tricks were going on left and right. Mike Scott had to be busy time on the microphone with calling out all the different tricks. The judges had an even harder time to actually decide what skater did better than the other. Overall, the judges did a good job to keep things to an honest perspective. Out of the 36 skaters that entered, only 6 of them walked away with some cash while the others won skateboards from Element, fitted hats from éS and tees from RVCA. The top 6 skaters from the final jam are:

1. Paul Trep - $300 2. Boyd Young - $200 3. Dustin Montie - $100

4. Stash - $50 5. Stacey Gabriel - $50 6. Spencer Hamilton - $50

After the jam contest, we held the best trick contest on the clump of obstacles tucked into the corner of the skatepark, the double set (3 flat 4 stairs), kinked rail and the big hubba. I think this is the first time ever that these obstacles got so much attention. Even though the double set area had a very tight area, Paul Trep and Spencer Hamilton had no problems with some flippery while John Hanlon and Dustin Montie toyed with the gap to rail. Here are the list of tricks during the Best Trick contest:

Paul Trep - $100 – (Double Set)
Switch Backside 180, Switch Backside Hellflip, Switch Bigspin Heelflip, Nollie Flip
Dustin Montie - $50 (Gap down to rail) Noseblunt, Backlip, Lipslide, Smith Gring, Tailslide
Spencer Hamilton - $50 (Double Set) Big Flip, Frontside Flip over the rail, 360 flip
Jon Hanlon -$25 - (Gap down to rail) Lipslide, Backlip, Back Tail (Double Set) Hardflip
Boyd Young - $25 (Ledge) FS 5-0, FS tailslide (Double Set) Bigspin

Even though the day started off lousy, some how everything came together and the "Get Tricks" contest was another success. Thanks to everyone that participated in the event, the staff that made things come together Jessica, Ryan Bonnell, Mike Scott, Mel, Alex Bastide, Jarvis and to all the sponsors involved: Underworld, RVCA, éS, Element, Monster Energy, Dragon, Crooks & Castle, Thunder, Alphanumeric, Spitfire, Color and the City of Coquitlam. Browse through the photos and watch the video highlights. The next event for the UW Summer Series contest (Vancouver) is éS Game of Skate July 5th
